Consultation services are available to any interested authors who have submitted work to .:*:.Polished Quill.
For those interested, please note a request for consultation either
during or after the editing process has finished. Within my
response of notification in regards to receiving your submission, I
will offer dates and times that are available to perform said
consultation, whether via email, IM, forum posting, phone*, or, where
available, in person. Any questions will be accepted.
- Email:
a date and time will be established (if time zones permit), and I will
exchange emails with the author regarding any questions of or regarding
to his or her work.
- Instant Messenger: a date and time will be established (if time zones permit), and the consultation will be conducted through a chat session with the author.
- Forum Posting:
a private sub-board will be created under the consultation section of
the forum, password-locked with access given only to the author and
me; again, a date and time will be established. Membership at
the forum is required for this process (membership is free, courtesy of
the server).
- Phone:
a date and time will be established; it is the job of the author to
place the call to me. Phone consultation generally does not last
more than one hour, but more than one session may be scheduled.
- In Person:
a date, time, and place will be established; the author must bring a
copy of the submission with him/her (edited or original, depending upon
when in the process the consultation is desired), and I will do the
same, providing a copy with what comments are currently
available. In-person consultation is generally from one to three
hours, though alteration is certainly possible.
Authors may request
a permanent consultation status to be added to their name. This
means that a generic availability time will be set when both the author
and I will be open to the other, regardless of whether a submission for
that author is in the queue or not. A request is submitted by the
author when he or she wishes for a certain submission to be removed
from the consultation status.
The permanent consultation status is different from general relations
because while I am always open to any questions from an author at any
given time and will take them at no cost/charge/repercussion regardless
of whether I currently hold that author's submission, a permanent
status offers that author the opportunity to gain an immediate response
from me by obtaining a set time at which to be certain of contacting me,
which many find beneficial when writing long-term or going back to
former works.
Consultation is also
available prior to the writing process, should the author wish to discuss the possibilities of an idea prior to writing
anything concrete. I do not offer ghostwriting services but am
more than happy to discuss plot ideas or the necessary aspects of any
business/academic writing in order to place the strongest emphasis
where needed. All of the above options are available.
For prior consultation, I do prefer authors with whom I have worked before, because that grants me a clearer idea of their usual style, but that is not a required element.
